January 31st

We have continued our inquiry about communities. We have been looking at comparing and contrasting communities in other parts of the world and talking about the communities we belong to.

The Kindergarteners have put a lot of hard work into their journal pages about things that they might do in their communities.

We are all getting very excited for our field trip on Monday to Fort Calgary to continue our learning on communities.

January Blog

Welcome Back Kindergarten ! I hope you had a wonderful winter break with your families.

The Kindergarten team has started an inquiry unit on communities. We have talked a lot about what a community is and what kind of communities we belong to.

As a class, we defined a community as a place where people live, work, and play. We talked about how members of a community might go to the same schools, shop in the same stores and play the same sports. They also help each other and solve problems together.

Ask your child what they have learnt about communities and what different communities they belong too.

We looked at different pictures and decided if it belonged under a community or not a community.

After we talked about what a community is we started talking about different kinds of communities that we might belong to and what we do in these communities. These were some of their responses.

We begun to discuss how each community usually has a set of rules that we are supposed to follow.
These are some of the rules that they came up with in their family communities:

Family Community Rules

We will continue our inquiry unit on communities by looking at different books, videos and songs about communities, and doing hands on learning about communities during our daily center time.
