March 20th

Dear Families,

As many of you already know I am due to have my baby in April. I was hoping to have the opportunity to say goodbye to all of you in person at the parent teacher conferences this week. Unfortunately with the unexpected news of the closure of schools I will not be given the chance to say goodbye to you or your children.

Jivan Sekhon will be taking over until the end of the school year. She looks forward to meeting all of you !

I wish you and your families all the best of health and happiness, it was such a pleasure getting to know each and every one of you. I will miss all of my students dearly, please give them a big hug for me !

Friday Journals

It has been so wonderful reading your responses from your child's weekly journals that they take home on Friday's. The kids have enjoyed doing their journal entries knowing that they get to go home and share what they have been doing with you.

Please remember to return their writing journals to school on Monday as we use their journals for other work other than Friday journals.

February 25th

Our Kindergarten class has been busy with our inquiry unit on communities. Our Kindergarten classes took part in a mail exchange program with different schools across Canada. A few weeks ago, our Kindergarten class filled out an information sheet about our school and city community and sent it off to other schools. In turn, we have been receiving mail from various schools across Canada about the school community that they belong to. It has been a rich learning experience learning about different communities and how they might be similar or different from ours. We have been using Google Earth to search their school and see what their school looks like and what kinds of things are around their school community. It has also provided a good opportunity to talk about how mail is delivered and what needs to be included when sending mail to other places.

Family Community Houses

Each student drew a picture of their family members and then built houses to put their pictures in. They are currently displayed on our bulletin outside our classroom - they turned out great !
